Location, Italy, Calabria, Catanzaro, Guardavalle. Enter a small mountainous village. Un paese called Guardavalle ("look valley") and embark on an exciting, nostalgic journey with me. The ride may be a little bumpy at times, but "don't let that deter you" just climb aboard, sit back and hold on tight, ("well our little four legged friends are known to be temperamental at times!") and enjoy a sentimental, (and for some an emotionally charged), photographic journey down memory lane. ........."For those that love you, will sometimes make you cry". .........These archival images were taken over a long period, from 1973 - 1979. ........" Back in those days, many a meal was sacrifised, so that one could afford to buy color slide film". The sacrifices I feel were well worth it, as can be seen in the rare archival images recorded. They showcase village life, people, their customs and traditions, special events and Religious Festivals. ........ "We need to keep alive and always hold dear in our hearts, all these wonderful, happy memories and traditions, so as to preserve our Cultural Heritage. It is too late once they are gone". ........ So that for now and into the future, all these customs and traditions will always be,"ajoy4ever". ........ Although I grew up in Australia, I feel myself fortunate to have been born in Guardavalle_Calabria_Italy. Over the years I have kept a close bond with Guardavalle and it's people, experiencing at first hand it's hospitality and all that Guardavalle has to offer. Therefore it is a "real privilege and an absolute pleasure", for me to showcase these "archival" photographs for the first time. The photographs have been many years in the making. ........ They total in all 4227 photographs (and growing), of which, 2150 are "archival" photographs, spread over 107 galleries. ( Note, most galleries also have their own,"MY FAVORITES" gallery, attatched directly opposite.) ....... A large amount of time and effort, not to mention considerable expense went into the creation of these archival photographs. Most originated as colour slides which were each (professionally) digitally 'drum scanned' manually at 50MB, high resolution. Each image was then colour corrected to repair the degraded image colours, as the slides were taken around 1973-1979. The majority of these archival photographs have been stored away in slide boxes, and deteriating for far too long. I have lovingly, and as best I could, restored them back to their former glory. ........"Their beauty needed to be released and not hidden away, as though confined within some solid stone block". ......... For those of you that would like to see something, maybe a little different and artistic, you are also invited to view my, "artistically inspired","archival" galleries, 025_026_027_028_029. I am filled with wonder and amazement at how some of the images were created. It seems like the beauty of the image that lies, deep within, has somehow been released. Blossoming into a new and inspiring, alternate view of the original image. (gallery 025) Can be most seen, especially in the religious inspired "archival" images of Christ's Crucifixion. (gallery 026) ........ As the saying goes photography is "painting with light". ........ My last 32 galleries 030 up to 045 were taken in 2005, and showcase another 1298 international travel photographs. ........
